Welcome to Alger Pediatrics. We are honored to work with you to keep your child healthy.
As your medical home, we will provide comprehensive care for your children. Regular physical exams allow us to evaluate growth and development, vaccinate your child, discuss nutrition, safety, and disease prevention, and to answer your questions. We will also care for your children if they are sick - via phone calls, visits to our office, or through hospitalizations.
As your medical home, we know you. We have records of medications, allergies, and health issues. We ask that you call us before taking your child to a med center or emergency room. Often we can answer questions, save time and money, and provide excellent care with consistent follow-up.
The following services are available to you:
Phone Nurses/Appointments: Nurses are available to answer questions and to schedule appointments from 8:15 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and 8:15 am - 12:00 pm on Saturdays. The office is closed from 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm for lunch.
Doctor on Call: A pediatrician from Alger Pediatrics is on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week to answer your urgent or emergent health care questions. We will direct you to appropriate emergency care if necessary. We can be reached at 776-7401. If you do not receive a call back in fifteen minutes, please call the service again. Please turn off "Privacy Manager" or other call-screening programs from your phone so that a doctor may return your call.
Walk In Clinic: From 7:30 am to 8:30 am Monday through Friday one pediatrician will see patients on a first come, first served basis for acute illnesses and injuries. You do not need to schedule these brief appointments. Appropriate visits include fever, ear pain, rash, injury, or respiratory problems. If your child has a chronic or more complicated problem, please schedule a regular appointment to allow adequate time.
Holidays/Weekends: The office is closed on Sundays and all major holidays. Please see our website or call the office to check your schedule. We are open Saturdays from 8:15 am to 12:00 pm by appointment only for acute illnesses and injuries.
Prescription Refills: Please allow 24 hours for routine prescription refills Monday through Friday.
Sports/School Physicals/Green Forms: We will complete this paperwork for you at scheduled appointments. Otherwise, if you drop forms off at other times, please allow us 48 hours.
Urgent Care: We prefer that you do not use an urgent care facility without first calling our office. These centers are usually not staffed by pediatricians, and they do not send us records of your visit.
GRAPES: "Grand Rapids Area Pediatric Evening Service" provides urgent after-hours care for children from 7:00 pm to 10:30 pm Monday through Friday and 5:00 pm - 10:30pm on Saturday and Sunday. You must be referred by the doctor on call to be seen at GRAPES. This service is staffed by a pediatrician form Alger Pediatrics or other local offices.
GRAPES is located in Suite 300 of the Helen DeVos Outpatient Building, located at 330 Barclay. This building is on the corner of Michigan and Barclay, just west of Lafayette, with free parking in the lot across from the E.R. You must be referred by the doctor on call to be seen at GRAPES.
Hospital/Emergency Room: If your child has a life-threatening emergency, such that you cannot wait fifteen minutes for a phone call from your doctor, please go to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital Emergency Room on Bostwick Street immediately across from the Van Andel Institute. If you are over 18 years of age, then proceed to the Spectrum Butterworth ER on Barclay.
