We at Alger Pediatrics are pleased to be entrusted with the care of your children. As doctors and nurses, we will work with you to keep your children healthy through regular check-ups and immunizations.
However, illnesses and mishaps are inevitable. You will readily manage most of these events in the home setting. We have developed this book to help you with these problems. When an event occurs, we ask that you refer to this booklet. We are more than happy to augment this information when you call the office if this information does not suffice. Most problems can be taken care of during office hours. In the evenings and weekends we have an on call service that is provided free of charge. We ask you to use this service only when necessary, but encourage you to use it when you are worried substantially. Calling in prescriptions should occur during office hours.
If your child’s problem cannot wait until regular hours, our pediatricians participate in GRAPES clinic (open 7-10:30 weeknights and 5-10:30 weekends). It is located on the third floor of the Helen DeVos Women & Children’s Center on Barclay across from Spectrum Downtown ER. It is a referral service. You should call us before going to GRAPES. All HMO patients need to preauthorize these visits. GRAPES always has a pediatrician seeing patients, which the Med Centers do not generally have. We therefore encourage you to use this service preferentially.
In life threatening situations, please use DeVos Children’s Hospital
children’s ER at Spectrum Downtown.
>Alger Pediatrics also offers a morning walk-in clinic from 7:30 am to 8:30 am Monday through Friday. This is on a first come-first served basis. It is meant to serve limited acute problems involving short term illness and injury occurring in the preceding day. Appointments should be arranged for long standing problems. On Saturday mornings acute care clinic visits are to be arranged by a preceding phone call with the nursing staff as there is no walk-in clinic.
