First-time Newborns

Congratulations on the upcoming arrival of your new baby, and thank you for considering Alger Pediatrics for your child’s care. Below is some information about the process of registering a first-time newborn with our office.

Immunizations:

All our doctors follow the CDC guidelines and schedule for immunizations, listed here. If you have chosen not to vaccinate or would prefer to follow an alternative vaccine schedule, our office would not be a good fit for you and we ask that you look elsewhere for pediatric care.

Insurance:

Please verify that our office accepts your insurance. Our insurance participation is detailed under the “insurance" tab at the top of the page.

Choose a doctor:

Dr. Jared Doezema, Dr. Connor Kriz, Dr. Jayne Rauwerda, and Dr. Stephanie Walter are currently accepting first-time newborns.

We ask that you get to know our physicians through their profiles under the “our team” tab at the top of the page, as their schedules unfortunately do not allow time for in-person meet-and-greets.

Once you have chosen your doctor, let your OB/GYN and the nurse in the delivery room at the hospital know that you’ve chosen Alger Pediatrics, and which doctor you’ll be seeing.

Hospital visit:

Our doctors round at Spectrum Butterworth and Mercy Health St. Mary’s. If you deliver at one of these locations, the hospital will notify our office when the baby is born. One of our physicians will visit you in the hospital the following day and let you know which day they’d like to see you in our office for the first newborn appointment. If you deliver elsewhere, please call us upon discharge and we will schedule an appointment for you.

Transfer Patients

Dr. Connor Kriz and Dr. Jared Dozema are currently accepting transfer patients.

IS OUR OFFICE A GOOD FIT FOR YOU?

Please consider the following questions to help determine if office would be a good fit for your family:

  • Are you immunizing according to the CDC guidelines? (Please see our immunization guidelines for any questions about what this entails.)

  • Do you carry an insurance that we participate with? (Our insurance information is detailed on our website under the Insurance tab.)

  • If you carry Medicaid insurance, do you live in Kent County? (At this time, we are unable to accept transfer patients outside of Kent County who carry Medicaid.)

  • Do our office hours work well with your schedule? (Our office hours are listed on the Contact Us tab.)

If you feel that our office would be a good fit for your family, please follow the steps below:

Step one:

  • Call our office so we can get some initial information on file.

Step two:

  • Have your child’s medical records sent over.

  • We need the patients’ medical history before we can enter them into our EMR system.

  • Best care is for the physicians to have their full medical records, but we need at minimum their vaccine history.

  • You may call your previous pediatrician’s office to have these records sent over, and if the office requires, we can fax over a records request form.

Step THREE:

  • Once we have received the records, we will register the patients in our EMR system and will then contact you to schedule any necessary appointments.

  • You will receive a call within two weeks of the records arriving at our office.

  • Please note: patients must be fully registered before we are able to see them for walk-in hours, scheduled appointments, or vaccine clinics.
